Animals Alphabet

Published by on June 14th, 2012

Redolent of early twentieth century primers, Animals Alphabet from Tapisodes does exactly what it says in the title, but with a modern twist in the form of animated animals. The app is just as appealing for its cartoons (by UK cartoonist Charles Peattie) and excellent sound effects as it is for its educational value.

The animations are rich in comic detail as each letter showcases a different animal. Tapping on the animal triggers a repeat of the letter. Tapping once on a paw print animates the cartoon and tapping again moves the reader on to the next page. The app is very easy to navigate; the menu page offers the options of running through the alphabet sequentially or choosing individual animals from a picture board.

There are also other menu options, from the trailer video showing the cartoonist at work to a quiz which tests alphabetic knowledge by asking the reader to name animals beginning with the given letters. This was first released in 2010 as Charles Peattie’s Animal Alphabet, when it met with widespread approval. It should both entertain and educate a new group of keen learners this time around, too.

There are a growing number of very high quality ABC apps in the market place. This one deserves a place amongst the best.
