Babel is a grumpy cat with very little sense. Bored with his smelly home, he passes his time by climbing high trees and poking at the clouds to annoy them. After a fall one day, he develops megalomania and decides to become a King. But all is not as it seems.
The voice from the sky may not really be the clouds. And maybe not everyone is happy to become a loyal subject. Babel engages the services of a flock of willing sheep and, mistaking compliance for loyalty, builds a castle in which to receive the adulation of his admirers. But every good king should have an enemy and Babel is no exception. Immersed in his self-made glory, he is unaware that the clouds are gathering for revenge. Read the story to find out the ending – suffice it to say here that Babel learns nothing from his experience as the story comes full circle.
Developed by Belgian digital content creators EPIC agency and authored by Tunisian writer and comic illustrator Karim Maaloul, this imaginative story is quite unique. The author does not just create characters and settings; he draws the reader into a quirky and highly original visual world. Images and language are rich in detail and content. Sound effects and original music combine to complete the multimodal experience.
The story can be animated by interactions on each of its 20 pages. Blow, pull and push to explore from within the story – a help display can be turned on to show little fingers which parts of the page to interact with. There are two reading modes with professional narration for the ‘Read to Me’ option.
This is a very special story, conceived and designed to utilise all the functions of touch screen technology in equal balance. It is an app to which children will return over and over again. Because it works at many levels, it is also a story that parents will enjoy sharing.
